Design & Prototype

The game started with a simple idea. Take two existing arcade classics and mash them together. I got the basic mechanics working on the first day and used the second to refine the physics and controls.

Once I was happy with the foundation I used a retro CRT shader, particle effects and screen shake to add some flavor before creating some more brick types and a few basic levels.

Further Development

After the initial game jam was over I decided to continue development so I could release the project on Steam in order to familiarize myself with the process for future projects.

With the help of an additional team member I tweaked the game feel and optimized the mechanics. We also added additional menus for settings, a save/progress system for levels and a combo counter. As well as more levels and increased audio/visual feedback.

Additional Features

After the initial game jam was over I decided to continue development with my team and use it for our first release.

We tweaked the game feel and optimized the mechanics and added additional menus for settings, a save/progress system for levels and a combo counter. As well as more levels and increased audio/visual feedback.

We also added some additional features including different game modes, paddles types and a sudden death option.

Demo & Release

We're currently releasing the game on steam to familiarize ourselves with the distribution process for future projects. We have some post-launch updates in the work too. Our expectations releasing this project are focused on gaining experience. We're not expecting it to make the big money but we are expecting to learn a lot.
